Abstract
The building spree of movie house megaplexes in late 1990's resulted in 6 of the 10 largest theatre chains filing for bankruptcy. Simply put: too many screens for too few patrons. The saga of Edwards Theatres Circuit is a case in point. Bankruptcy enabled the company to void the expensive leases for unprofitable theatres. But there was much more to the demise and rise of this company, as the turnaround specialists describe in this firsthand account.
